Meet Tate

Tate Kemp was born with Cerebral Palsy, a lifelong condition affecting his body movement, coordination, muscle tone and speech.

Living in the Macedon Ranges with his family, Tate spent much of his early life receiving specialised treatment to re-train his muscle groups and through extraordinary determination, discipline, and plain hard work, Tate has achieved goals others have only dreamed of.

Tate is also an encouraging mentor to others living with a disability.  Assisting them in achieving their own life aspirations.  Like all young people when leaving school, Tate assessed his employment opportunities and career aspirations.  After examining his strengths and areas of interest, All Abilities Public Speaking was born.  This platform provides Tate with the perfect opportunity to use his natural ability to connect and bring people together, all while spreading awareness of disability and inclusion.  As a public speaker, Tate is dynamic in his approach, receiving assistance from various technology and support workers to achieve outcomes.

Through his lived experiences, Tate shares his daily challenges to educate others on how those living with a disability can be included into everyday activities - with a little thoughtfulness, understanding and assistance, a huge impact can be made. A supportive environment can improve an individual’s overall well-being and contribute to a meaningful experience for all.

As a public speaker, Tate is a source of resilience and inspiration. Through his determination, faith and hope, Tate has not only completed physical accomplishments, but he also successfully completed secondary learning and has completed his Certificate 1 in Work Education through TAFE.  When Tate is not speaking and educating others around disability, he enjoys heading down to his local football club and cricket club, sharing a meal and being social.

Tate is now on a mission to share his life experience thus far to educate and promote awareness of his and other disabilities.  To challenge the social disability model and influence people to make positive changes.  Tate and the team at AAPS look forward to attending your organisation to provide a truly unique disability experience.

Achievements

Tate’s love of sport sees him contribute to other charities like ‘The Big Freeze’ foundation where he contributed to a big part for most beanies sold by raising $88 800.00 in 2020.

Throughout the years, Tate’s story has been featured in media programs such as channel 7’s Sunday Night, channel 10’s The Project, radio with Neil Mitchell and countless newspaper articles. Tate also had his own editorial in the official AFL football record in 2018.

In 2009, at the age of 7, Tate was a recipient of the Pride of Australia medal, having then completed two 5K Melbourne marathons in his walking frame to raise monies and awareness for Cerebral Palsy ’if kids like me can do it, it will show other kids they can do it as well’. Since then, Tate has raised much needed funds for the Cerebral Palsy Education Centre and completed 13 Melbourne marathons. He is an honorary Spartan, a converted accomplishment received after finishing ten marathons.

Kind Words

Genuine. Inspiring. Positive. Able.

These are just a few words by which our Middle School students summed up the presentation given by Tate from All Abilities Public Speaking. Tate’s hour-long presentation allowed our students and staff to gain an insight into what it is like to live with a disability, the importance of inclusion for all, resilience and the opportunities that are available for those with different abilities in our society. We were left with a better understanding and tolerance, two traits which we all hope can help us to make others we meet feel included and supported.

Students were involved in a range of activities which enabled them to briefly experience the limitations and challenges that those living with a disability face.

If there are schools out there looking for a speaker who will leave their young people in a better place, look no further than AAPS. The life lessons learnt during this single hour far exceeded what we could communicate as able educators in a whole term..”

— Catherine Cruickshank - Braemar College

“Tate is an extraordinary young man and we were very pleased and privileged to have him speak at our school. The kids loved hearing Tate’s journey and were eager to share their insights and stories as a result of his visit. Tate is a brilliant ambassador for inclusion and such an inspiration to all.”

— Inga Wilson, Principal Sunbury West Primary School

“Since I met Tate Kemp over fifteen years ago, he has never ceased to amaze me with his passion for life and determination to set a goal and achieve it. Whether it was competing in the Melbourne Marathon 13 times, or starting his own public speaking business, when Tate sets himself a goal he will not stop till he achieves it. While Tate's business is just starting out, I have no doubt that he will change minds and perceptions and inspire people with disabilities, their families and many others around the world with his inspiring story. As a media professional of three decades standing, and a father of my own 18 year old son Alexander who lives with Cerebral Palsy as well, I encourage anyone looking for a speaker to uplift and inspire to contact Tate. I defy anyone who watches and listens to him to walk away without understanding they were in the presence of someone truly special and who will leave a mark on them forever.”

"Back in 2008 Neil Mitchell met Tate Kemp, a young boy with cerebral palsy who was told he would never walk or talk.

But at five years old, he set himself a goal to complete the five kilometre leg of the Melbourne Marathon, completing the race in four hours with a smile on his face the whole time!

The 3AW Mornings host then spoke with Tate's mum Sue on how he is going 15 years on."
